BRAC Uganda Microfinance Ltd (BUMFL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BRAC Uganda (NGO), to implement a corporate social responsibility fund. This project was drawn through multiple consultations between the two entities with the objective of collaborating to support and empower more people and communities through empowerment and livelihood for adolescent girls (ELA), agriculture and emergency response.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the BRAC country office, Nyanama on 23 April 2018. BRAC’s country representative, Ms Hasina Akhter signed the MoU on behalf of BRAC Uganda, and CEO Mr Jimmy Adiga signed the MoU on behalf of BUMFL. Also present were Mrs Sarah Mugerwa (country head of accounts), Mrs Eunice Hasakya, (HR & training manager), and Mr December Walter (monitoring & evaluation manager).
BRAC Uganda (NGO) will utilise the funding for the implementation of activities where there has been a funding gap, specifically the empowerment for adolescent girls in West Nile region, and Northern Uganda districts. Activities among others will include;
- Life skills training and mentorships
- Livelihood support ensuring economic strengthening of the girls
- Provision of financial literacy training, business start up and development
Such collaboration is beneficial to both entities, and can greatly enhance innovation through knowledge exchange. BRAC aims to play a leading role in such collaborative initiatives.
