In 1972, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed founded BRAC in post-war Bangladesh. Over the course of more than four decades, we changed the rural landscape of the country, touching the lives of millions of people in poverty.
Today we are a global leader in development, operating in 10 countries through Stichting BRAC International. BRAC is the first NGO from the global south to expand into other parts of the south with a distinctive integrated model, exemplifying one of the primary principles of development – localisation. We are known across the world for our cost-effective programmes that are locally led and strengthens communities.
We act as a catalyst, creating opportunities for people living in poverty to realise their potential. Our mantra is simple – pilot, perfect and scale up. And for us, it’s always quality first.
In 2016, we were ranked #1 NGO in the world by Geneva-based NGO Advisor for our impact, innovation and sustainability.
“Today, BRAC is more than a reference; it is leading the non-profit world toward its next degree of efficiency and leverage” – Jean-Christophe Nothias, NGO Advisor Editor-in-Chief
