BRAC Myanmar participated in International Women’s Day 2019 ceremony organised by the Myanmar National Committee of Women on 8th March 2019. We proudly displayed booths with our women enterprise programme materials and development activities at there. That ceremony was held as national level celebration at MICC2 in Naypyitaw and representatives from government ministries and women organisations attended. The 2019 theme is ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’ focusing on innovative ways in which we can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure.
As the regional level in Yangon, International Women’s Day event was held on 9th March 2019 at Maharbandula Park. IWD working groups members displayed their respective booths and BRAC Myanmar also participated with our stalls. Prof Win Myat Aye, the Union Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and U Naing Ngan Lin, the Minister of Social Affairs (Yangon Region Ministry) gave the speech which was followed by the entertainment and quiz session. Highlight of the event was the Champion for Gender Equality is awarded to Ma Cherry Soe, a mother of two children, who actively advocates rights for women and children in Mon State.
As BRAC Myanmar country-wise IWD celebration, our employees celebrated it at every branch including country office by writing personal commitment for the coming years for promoting gender equality and women empowerment, and sharing own opinions about the theme of this year “Balance for better”.
BRAC has been celebrating International Women’s Day every year through various programmes and interventions.
