BRAC Pakistan clients Nadeem Akhtar from Gujrat won the award for ‘Best National Micro entrepreneur Male’ while Sakina Bibi from Multan won the award in the female category at the 13th Citi-PPAF Micro-entrepreneurship Award ceremony held in Islamabad on Tuesday, 12th March 2019.
Both the clients received shields of recognition and cheque worth PKR 340,000 and their respective loan officers Nadia Server and Muhammad Hassan also received cash prize worth PKR 34,000 for helping their clients recognize their potential.
Nadeem has significantly grown his business of rural transport by making smart investments and using loans provided by BRAC, going from living hand-to-mouth to acquiring key financial stability. He has also provided employment to other individuals in his community. Sakina Bibi established a washing machine plant using savings and BRAC’s loans, she also has provided for her son’s laundry shop. She began by washing clothes of neighboring households, and now provides employment for four other individuals.
The 13th Citi-PPAF Micro entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony was held to celebrate outstanding micro entrepreneurs across Pakistan, equip them to expand their businesses, and raise awareness of the impact of small businesses on communities and economies. The shortlisted winners underwent a rigorous assessment process that studied both their business models and the impact they had on their communities.
